The horticulture group held its inaugural meeting on
wednesday 4th October 2006. The purpose of the group is to discuss the
flora of the park and to carry out a program of planting approved by
the council.
The group is open to anyone with an interest in gardening.
Both experts
and
novices will be welcome.
Our first project is to plant pyracantha along the new fence
at the
bottom of the park. This is a glorious evergreen plant with dark olive
coloured leaves, delicate white flowers in the spring and flaming red
or
yellow berries
from Septemeber to December. In addition to its natural beauty it will
also protect the new fence from graffiti and vandalism.
Monthly Meetings
We meet on the last sunday of each month in the summer at 9.30 in the park
for 1-2 hours of gardening activities. If you'd like to join in, just
come along, bringing a spade and fork if you have one.
